what keeps marginalized
communities
away from mainstream
development? A group of young agricultural
students and teachers from a university in
Rajasthan set out to find the answer to this
vexing question. e findings from their field
investigation were translated into the mission
and goals of Arpan Seva Sansthan, now a
multiple award-winning NGO.
Starting off with a focus on natural
resource management, Arpan now works
on a range of issues, finding solutions
for them through community-led and
participatory methods, combined with
leveraging technology. Some of the areas it
covers with its programmes include WASH;
enhancing livelihoods through infrastructure
improvement and market linkages;
empowering women through education, skill
training, and gender equality; improving
education facilities, teacher training, and
digital literacy; implementing sustainable
agricultural practices, afforestation, waste
management initiatives and much more.
