HCLTech Grant Project:
Universal Tuberculosis Care through Active Case Finding and
Treatment Support in Rural Bihar
e National TB Elimination Programme (NTEP) in rural Bihar significantly lags, due to
the pandemic. Only 68% (61,467) TB case notification was achieved in 2021 in the public
sector, and only 45.8% patients could receive help under the government’s nutritional support
initiative. is Project proposes to work for TB case finding, testing and complete cascade of
care from drugs, transport to reach healthcare facilities and more, to strengthen the public
health system, and is working in 100% of Samastipur district with a population of 5.01
million. IIH has successfully implemented a TB project during the pandemic, drawing on
more than a decade’s experience running TB programs in rural Bihar.
• Screened 24,000 people for tuberculosis, with more than 50% SC & ST
populations
• Trained 1167 CHWs,increasing their referrals and having an impact of
114%, more than previous year
•
Training ASHAs to use ‘ASHWIN’, an app-based payment system for their
incentives, and ‘NIKSHAY IDs’ for Direct Benefit Transfer for TB patients
• 2995 GeneXpert tests conducted, representing 68% of all NAAT
performed in the region.
